Question : Reduction-Exemption under GST

(a) whether the Government has received requests from ASSOCHAM Traders bodies and Manufacturers Associations to exempt/reduce Goods and Services Tax (GST) for various products;

(b) if so, the details and the reasons mentioned in their requests for exemption and reducing the GST;

(c) whether the Government has examined these requests/proposals;

(d) if so, the details thereof and the response of the Government thereto; and

(e) if not, the reasons therefor and the steps taken/being taken by the Government to avoid the inflation and boost the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth of the country?

(a), (b), (c), (d) and (e): Representations were received from various traders bodies and manufacturers associations including ASSOCHAM seeking reduction in GST rates/ exemption from GST on certain goods/services, which were examined by the GST rate Fitment Committee constituted by the GST Council. Thereafter, the recommendations of the Fitment Committee were examined by the GST Council, which thereafter recommendation change in GST rates wherever deemed necessary. Based on the recommendations of the GST Council, the GST rates for various goods/services have been notified by the Central Government and State Governments.
