Question : Development of Tourism Infrastructure in Chandrapur

(a) whether there is a huge downfall in the number of tourists coming to Chandrapur, Maharashtra despite having a lot of attractive tourist spots like, Tadoba tiger reserve, Mahakali temple, Coal mines and Heritage forts and if so, the reasons therefor;
(b) whether the Government is going to provide world class infrastructure for these tourist places for attraction of tourists;
(c) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor;
(d) whether the Government is going to announce Chandrapur as Mines Tourist place; and
(e) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor?

(a): Data on tourist visits at sub state level is not centrally maintained. However as per the information received from Maharashtra State Government, there is no huge downfall in the number of tourist coming to Tadoba tiger reserve.

(b) & (c): According to information received from Maharashtra State Government, Maharashtra Tourism development corporation(MTDC) sanctioned projects under various schemes for development of tourism at:

• Ballarpur entry gate.
• Jatpura gate.
• Mul Malguzari talao
• Facility for tourist at Naleshwar

(d) & (e): Ministry of Tourism, Government of India has not sanctioned any tourism project at Chandrapur in the recent past.

Development of tourism spots, is primarily the responsibility of the concerned State Government/Union Territory Administration. However, Ministry of Tourism, Government of India under its schemes of Swadesh Darshan, PRASHAD and Assistance to Central Agencies, provides central financial assistance to State Governments/Union Territories/Central Agencies for development of tourism related infrastructure and facilities to provide an enriching tourism experience to visitors. The projects under the schemes are identified for development in consultation with State Governments/UT Administration and are sanctioned subject to availability of funds, submission of suitable detailed project reports, adherence to scheme guidelines and utilization of funds released earlier.
