Answer given by the minister

THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF WATER RESOURCES (SHRI VINCENT H. PALA)

(a) & (b) Rajasthan has been requesting for supply of Yamuna waters from Tajewala Headworks viz Western Yamuna Canal for Jhunjhunu and Churu Districts and from Okhla headworks via Gurgaon Canal for Bharatpur District. To this effect, Rajasthan had also submitted two schemes viz. `Utilization of Yamuna waters in District Bharatpur (Rajasthan)` and `Utilization of Yamuna waters in Jhunjhunu and Churu District (Rajasthan)` which were cleared by Technical Advisory Committee of Ministry of Water Resources on 07.02.2003 subject to the concurrence of the Government of Haryana to the cost of the works to be carried out in their territory and taking up the construction in Haryana and Rajasthan simultaneously. However, Haryana has not given its concurrence so far and holds the view that Rajasthan may construct a canal parallel to Western Yamuna Canal for carrying their share of water to Jhunjhunu and Churu Districts while Rajasthan is of the view that remodeling of Western Yamuna Canal system is the best suited techno-economic solution for the transfer of water upto Rajasthan border.

(c) On a letter dated 19.08.2008 from Shri Sis Ram Ola, the Hon`ble Union Minister of Mines to the Hon`ble Prime Minister, the matter was taken up with the Hon`ble Chief Minister of Haryana who conveyed that Haryana was repeatedly requesting Rajasthan to take water Mawi village by constructing a barrage and also indicated Haryana`s willingness to share the cost of the barrage. This was conveyed to Shri Sis Ram Ola in a letter dated 10.02.2009. Water is a State subject. Central Government has been facilitating to bring the States together on the issue through letters and meetings for an amicable solution which, however, is for the State Governments to arrive at.
