Answer given by the minister

MINISTER OF RAILWAYS, COMMUNICATIONS AND
ELECTRONICS & INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

(SHRI ASHWINI VAISHNAW)

(a) to (e) Representations including that from Hon’ble Member of Parliament for extension of 12655/12656 Ahmedabad-Chennai Navjeevan Express upto Rajkot have been received. These requests are examined but not found feasible due to operational constraints including inadequate lie-over at Ahmedabad, as secondary maintenance of rakes is being undertaken at Ahmedabad, which takes about 6 hours. Rajkot is 240 kms from Ahmedabad. Ahmedabad-Rajkot sector is being served by 34 pairs trains. However, extension of train services is an on-going process on Indian Railways subject to operational feasibility and commercial justification.
