(a) the date on which the SUN TV actually began telecasting its programmes; and
(b) the date on which the SUN TV obtained clearance from the Reserve Bank of
India for remitting Foreign Exchange for payment of charges for uplinking of
transponder abroad?

(a) Since the Sun TV was initially uplinked from outside the country, the Ministry of
Information & Broadcasting does not have the information about the date when it
actually began its telecast. However, as per the copy of agreements furnished by
M/s Sun TV at the time of applying for release of foreign exchange for uplinking
and hiring of transponder, these agreements were effective from 29.4.1995 and 1.10.1995 respectively.
(b) The Sun TV obtained permission from Reserve Bank of India for remittance of
the foreign exchange towards transponder hire on Gorizont-41 satellite and
uplinking services through M/s ST Teleport Pte. Ltd., Singapore on 11th
December, 1995.
