(a) whether the Government proposes to extend the e-governance projects in smaller cities of the country;

(a), (b) and (c): The Government of India approved the National e-Governance Plan (NeGP) in May, 2006 with the vision to – “Make all Government services accessible to the common man in his locality, through common service delivery outlets and ensure efficiency, transparency & reliability of such services at affordable costs to realize the basic needs of the common man”. NeGP and the Mission Mode Projects under it are being implemented by the Ministries/Departments concerned across the country including cities.

NeGP consists of 27 Mission Mode Projects (MMPs) encompassing nine central MMPs, eleven State MMPs and seven integrated MMPs which are being implemented at the Central, State and Local Government levels to cater to the needs to urban, semi-urban and rural areas.

For the implementation of NeGP, common and infrastructure such as the Common Service Centres, State Wide Area Networks and State Data Centres are being set up in States/UTs. These projects are being set up in States/UTs. These projects are in different stages of implementation. State-wise details are given in Annexure I, II and III.
