Question : VACANT POSTS IN CENTRAL GOVERNMENT AND PUBLIC SECTOR UNDERTAKINGS



(a) the total number of posts lying vacant in Central sector in different departments and Governments organizations;

(b) the year-wise break up of number of posts abolished; and

(c) the justification of abolishing various posts in Government offices and departments?

(a) While information of vacant posts in the Public Sector Units is not collected by the Ministry of Finance, as per the latest information available, the number of posts lying vacant in different departments of the Central Government as on 1.3.2005 is approximately 4.71 lakhs.

(b) The Ministry of Finance does not keep details of the break-up of abolished posts, since the order in this regard are passed by the concerned Ministries/ Departments.

(c) All Ministries/ Departments are required to review their vacancies regularly and take necessary steps in the light of such reviews, extant instructions on the subject and guidelines on economy measures.
