Question : Use of Historical Buildings

(a) whether historical buildings in the country are being used as offices for defence research and other works by the Government;

(b) if so, the State and district-wise details thereof;

(c) whether the Government is contemplating to develop some portions of Charkhari Fort in Bundelkhand as tourism centre and open it for the people and tourists in
order to create local employment opportunities;

(d) whether there is any provision to provide relaxation in norms regarding area within 2000 meters under Defence Works Act, 1903; and

(e) if so, the details of such cases wherein relaxation has been given by utilising the above provisions?

(a)&(b) Yes, Sir. The list is at Annexure.

(c) Charkhari Fort in Bundelkhand is not under the protection of Archaeological Survey of India.

(d)&(e) No, Sir. However, the matter of Defence Works Act, 1903 is beyond the purview of Ministry of Culture.
