Question : VRS for Air India Employees

(a) whether Air India (AI) has drawn up a proposal to offer Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS) to around 15,000 employees before the disinvestment in Air India takes place;

(b) if so, the details thereof and the total number of requests received from AI staff for VRS as on date and the action taken by the Government on these requests;

(c) whether a section of Air India employees staged protest against the Government’s decision to privatize the national carrier saying they were always ready for turnaround and if so, the details thereof; and

(d) the manner and mechanism for opting VRS and implementing this scheme?

(a): No, Madam.;;

(b): Does not arise in view of (a) above.;;

(c): Air Corporation Employees Union,(ACEU) Delhi Region, vide Information Bulletin dated 12.07.2017 planned to hold a protest action, against Govt. of India''s decision of disinvestment of Air India, on Tuesday, 18.07.2017 during the lunch break from 1300 hrs. in front of ACEU Office, AI Complex, GSD Building, T-2, New Delhi. Subsequently, at around 1300 hrs. on 18.07.2017, a group of workers gathered in front of ACEU office at GSD Building, Terminal-II. The General Secretary, ACEU addressed the gathering. The ACEU vide their bulletin dated 18.07.2017 have appealed to the Govt. of India not to go for privatization and disinvestment of Air India. They have further mentioned that they are always ready to turn around Air India.;;

(d): Does not arise in view of (a) and (b) above.
