(a) whether the National Bureau of Water Use Efficiency has been set up and if so, the details thereof; and
(b) whether the Union Government proposes to introduce a water regulation and pricing mecha- nism and if so, the details thereof and the time-frame for the same?

(a) It is proposed to set up a “National Bureau of Water Use Efficiency (NBWUE)” to promote, and regu- late efficient use of water in irrigation, industrial and domestic sectors.
(b) The National Water Policy, 2012 adopted by the National Water Resources Council (NWRC), with Chief Ministers of all States as Members, at its Meeting held on 28th December, 2012, has identified the need for pricing of water to ensure its efficient use and reward conservation. It has also recommended setting up of State Water Regulatory Authorities to introduce pricing mechanisms to meet equity, efficiency and economic principles.
