Question : National Centre for Disease Control

Will the Minister of HEALTH AND FAMILY WELFARE be pleased to state:

(a) whether the Government has any proposal to setup a research centre of National Centre of Disease Control for Hyderabad;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether the Government of Telangana has allotted temporary building for making the centre functional and adequate land for construction of permanent building to setup the research centre;

(d) if so, the details thereof; and

(e) if not, the reasons therefor?

ANSWER

(a) & (b): Government has approved proposal for establishment of 30 new branches of the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Delhi (including 8 existing branches of NCDC), in all States including in the State of Telangana with a total outlay of Rs. 367.40 crore. The NCDC branches are State level branches of NCDC, Delhi for more effective implementation of schemes / programmes in the respective State and are not to function as research centres. The NCDC branches would provide state-of-art laboratory with sophisticated equipment for diagnostic support to the State Governments in diagnosis of emerging and re-emerging diseases. The project is also aimed at enhancing systemic capacity and capability for disease surveillance, outbreak investigation and rapid response to combat outbreaks in the States.

(c) to (e): State Government of Telangana had proposed an old building at DM&HS Campus, Koti, Sultan bazar, Hyderabad for establishment of NCDC branch of Telangana on temporary basis. A team of experts of NCDC visited the proposed building on 12th–13th December. 2019. The building was not found suitable for establishment of NCDC branch at Hyderabad.
