(a) whether the Union Government has any proposal to appoint Chairman for Minority Commission in future;
(b) if so, the details thereof;
(c) whether any Christian has ever been appointed as Chairman for Minority Commission since its inception;
(d) if so, the details thereof; and
(e) if not, the reasons therefor?

(a)&(b) As per sub-Section (2) of Section 3 of National Commission for Minorities
(NCM) Act, 1992 Central Government nominate the Chairperson, a Vice
Chairperson and Members of the Commission. Shri Syed Ghayorul
Hasan Rizvi has been nominated as Chairperson (NCM) vide notification
dated 23rd May, 2017.
(c)to(e) The sub-section (2) of Section 3 of the NCM Act, 1992 also provides that
the Chairman shall be from amongst the minority communities. As on
date no person from Christian community has been nominated as
Chairperson of the Commission. However, Shri George Kurian from
Christian Community has been nominated as Vice Chairperson of NCM
vide notification dated 4th July, 2017.
