Question : NATIONAL FISHERY DEVELOPMENT BOARD



(a) whether the Government has recently constituted National Fishery Development Board;

(b) if so, the details and objectives thereof;

(c) the nature of the constitution of said Board;

(d) whether there is any proposal to nominate the representatives of Members of Parliament in the governing body of said Board on the lines of other National Boards like Coir Board, Coffee Board etc;

(e) if so, the details thereof; and

(f) the time by which it is likely to be implemented?

THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF AGRICULTURE (DR.AKHILESH PRASAD SINGH )

(a )&(b): Yes, Sir. National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB) has been registered under the Andhra Pradesh Societies Act, 2001 in July, 2006. The main objective of the Board is to bring major activities relating to fisheries and aquaculture for focused attention and professional management by coordinating activities pertaining to fisheries undertaken by different Ministries/Departments in the Central Government and to work in coordination with the States/Union Territories to improve production, processing, storage, transport and marketing of products of capture and culture fisheries.

(c): The Board has a Governing Body with Agriculture Minister as the Chairman to give necessary guidance and direction to the Board. There is an Executive Committee headed by Secretary, Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries, which is vested with the general superintendence, direction and control of affairs and functions of the Board.

(d): No, Sir.
