Question : HARNESSING RENEWABLE SOURCES OF ENERGY



(a) whether the Government has recently approved raising the authorized share capital of IREDA from the existing level of Rs. 1000 crore to Rs. 6000 crore;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether the Government proposes to bring about an energy revolution in the country by harnessing renewable sources of energy; and

(d) if so, the name of States earmarked for this purpose?

(a)&(b): Yes, Madam. The Government has approved raising the authorized share capital of the Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (IREDA) from the existing level of Rs. 1000 crore to Rs. 6000 crore, which would facilitate IREDA in leveraging higher levels of debt from the market.

(c)&(d): The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has proposed a capacity addition of 175 GW from various renewable energy sources in all the states of the country by the year 2022. This inc- ludes 100 GW from solar, 60 GW from wind, 10 GW from bio-power and 5 GW from small hydro power.
