Question : Resumption of Train in Kerala

(a) whether the Government is aware of the sufferings of train passengers due to the withdrawal of passenger train services in the Shoranur-Nilambur route under the Palakkad Division in Kerala;

(b) if so, the reasons behind non-resuming of the passenger train service in this route;

(c) whether the Government proposes to take necessary steps to resume all the train services including passenger trains in the route and to mitigate the difficulties being faced by the people; and

(d) if so, the details in this regard?

(a) to (d) To prevent the spread of COVID-19 pandemic, Indian Railways had discontinued all regular passenger carrying trains w.e.f. 23rd March, 2020. Since November, 2021 Mail/Express trains are being operated with regular numbers as per rationalised time table. To cater to service of Shoranur-Nilambur section, 16349/16350 Kochuveli-Nilambur Rajya Rani Express, 16325/16326 Nilambur-Kottayam Express, 06466/06473 Nilambur-Shoranur Jn Specials are being operated. Besides, passenger train services are being restored in a phased manner.
