Question : AYUSH Medical Colleges

(a) whether there is a shortage of AYUSH medical colleges in the country and if so, the details thereof;

(b) the number of AYUSH medical colleges functional across the country currently, stream-wise and State/UT-wise;

(c) the details of the funds provided to such colleges during the last three years and the current year;

(d) whether the Government proposes to set up new AYUSH medical colleges in the country and if so, the details thereof, stream-wise and State/UT-wise including Jharkhand; and

(e) whether the Government has received any proposals from various States including Jharkhand regarding setting up of AYUSH Medical Colleges, if so, the details thereof and the action taken by the Government thereon?

(a)&(b) At present there are seven hundred seventeen (717) Ayush Medical Colleges functioning across the country. The Stream-wise and State/UT-wise details are placed at Annexure-I.
(c) Public Health is a State subject and upgradation of AYUSH Educational Institutions and establishment of new Ayushcolleges in the States comes under the purview of respective State/ UT Governments including Jharkhand.
However, Ministry of Ayushis implementing Centrally Sponsored Scheme of National AYUSH Mission (NAM) through States / UTs. Under NAM, there is provision of financial assistance for upgradation of existing Government / Government aided AYUSH Educational Institutions and establishment of new AyushColleges in the States, where availability of Ayushteaching Institutions is inadequate in Government Sector. The status of funds approved for upgradation of AYUSH Educational Institutions and establishment of new AYUSH Educational Institutions during the last three years and the current year, as per the proposal received from State/UT Governments including Jharkhand through, State Action through State Annual Action Plans (SAAPs) is enclosed as Annexure-II.
(d) The Satellite Centers of the existing National Institutes namely National Institutes of Ayurveda (NIA), Jaipur is being established at Panchkula, Haryana and All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), New Delhi is being established at Goa, These Institutes will impart education in Ayurveda system of medicine.
Further, proposals received to NCISM (National Commission for Indian system of Medicine) and NCH (National Commission for Homeopathy)for establishment of newGovernment AyushMedical Colleges for the Academic Year 2022-23 are as follows:-
• Ayurveda -09
• Unani-Nil
• Siddha- Nil
• Sowa-Rigpa-Nil
• Homeopathic- Nil
• For Jharkhand State-Nil

(e) Proposals received to NCISM (National Commission for Indian System of Medicine) and NCH (National Commission for Homeopathy) from private institutes of all States including Jharkhand regarding setting up of new Ayush Medical Colleges for the academic year 2022-23are as follows:-

• Siddha-04
• Sowa Rigpa-01
• Homeopathic- 23
• For Jharkhand State-01 Ayurveda proposal
