Question : Development of Sports and Sports Institutions

(a) whether the Union Government has taken any measures to develop the sports and sports institutions in the country;
(b) if so, the details thereof;
(c) whether the Union Government provides funds to various States to develop sports infrastructure;
(d) if so, the details thereof; and
(e) whether the Union Government proposes to open any indoor sports stadiums across the country including Karnataka and if so, the details thereof?

(a) & (b) Yes, sir. While ‘Sports’ being a State subject primarily responsibility for promotion and development of Sports is of State/ UT Governments. Central Government supplements the efforts of State/ UT Governments by providing assistance to National Sports Federations (NSFs) and running expert training facilities through Sports Authority of India (SAI) schemes. The list of sports institutes set up by the Government of India is at Annexure.
(c) & (d) Yes, Sir. The Central Government provides funds for sports events and bridging games infrastructure and sports infrastructure under Khelo India scheme to supplement efforts of the states.
(e) No, Sir. Do not arise.
