(a) & (b) Yes. The details of the agreement signed with WHO to collaborate in the field of traditional medicine along with the details of funds for each are at Annexure - I
(c) Yes, the National Medicinal Plants Board, Ministry of AYUSH is implementing Central Sector Scheme on “Conservation, Development and Sustainable Management of Medicinal Plants” throughout the Country. Under the scheme, the project based support is provided for following activities:
• In-situ conservation / Ex-situ conservation
• Support to Joint Forest Management Committees (JFMCs) / Panchayats / Van Panchayats / Biodiversity Management Committees (BMCs) / Self Help Groups (SHGs).
• Research & Development.
• IEC activities like Training / workshops / Seminars/ Conferences etc.
• Herbal Garden
• Promotion, marketing and trade of medicinal plants produce.
(d) Ministry of AYUSH has undertaken various steps to attend to the general public during the COVID-19 pandemic which are as follows:
• An advisory was issued by the Ministry of AYUSH on 29.01.2020 containing measures to improve immunity; to protect oneself from COVID and to stay healthy. An official communication dated 06.03.2020 was sent to all Chief Secretaries of States/Union territories with more specific suggestions on augmentation of General Immunity of people and about possible AYUSH intervention. Ministry has also issued self-care guidelines on 31.03.2020 regarding preventive health measures and boosting immunity with special reference to respiratory health.
• Guidelines for Registered Practitioners of respective system of AYUSH have been prepared by Research Councils and National Institutes with their team of experts and same is vetted by the Interdisciplinary AYUSH Research and Development Task Force of Ministry of AYUSH. The guidelines are made available in public domain for the benefit of more than 700,000 registered AYUSH practitioners to help in the management of COVID-19 pandemic uniformly.
• The Ministry of AYUSH has released “National Clinical Management Protocol based on Ayurveda and Yoga for management of COVID-19” prepared by National Task Force which in consensus from expert committees from All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), Delhi; Institute of Training and Research in Ayurved (ITRA), Jamnagar and National Institute of Ayurveda (NIA), Jaipur, Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS), Central Council for Research in Yoga & Naturopathy (CCRYN) and other national research organizations as per the Report & Recommendations of the Interdisciplinary Committee.
• The Ministry of AYUSH launched a three-month campaign on “AYUSH for Immunity”, through webinar and published bulletins on AYUSH for Immunity.
• The Ministry of AYUSH developed a mobile application “AYUSH Sanjivani” and documented the impact assessment of effectiveness, acceptance and usage of AYUSH advisories & measures in the prevention of COVID-19 through mobile application based population study.
• Considering the importance of immunity boosting measures in the wake of COVID-19 outbreak, Ministry of AYUSH has promoted use of AYUSH formulation i.e. ‘Ayush Kwath’ in the interest of health promotion to the masses.
• The “Telemedicine Practice Guidelines” have been released by the Ministry for practitioners of AYUSH systems of medicine to combat the current need in the wake of COVID-19 outbreak by providing rapid access to medical practitioners.
• AYURAKSHA kits were distributed to nearly 80,000 police personnel for over a period of 2 months as an immunity boosting measure for maintaining the health of frontline COVID warriors.
• Ministry of AYUSH through it Research Councils and institutes has undertaken 120 research studies, both prophylactic as well as interventional at over 140 location across the country.
• “AYU SAMVAD” (My Health My Responsibility) is one of the largest public awareness campaign program on AYURVEDA and COVID 19 PANDEMIC is initiated by All India Institute of Ayurveda, New Delhi.
• NIA has been providing Immunity Boosting Kits prepared in NIA Pharmacy for maintaining health of front line Corona Warriors which includes Chyawanaprash Avaleha, Immunity Boosting Decoctions (AYUSH Kwatha, Gojihwadi Kwatha), Immunity Boosting Capsules, Guduchi Ghan Vati, AYUSH-64 etc.Training have been provided to Hospital Staff and Students to fight against Covid-19
• Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy (CCRH) has carried out Prophylactic distribution of Homoeopathy medicine to front-line workers (Maharashtra Police) and to inmates in Delhi prisons as immune booster. Population based data collection of mass post prophylaxis program across various states through homoeopathic medical colleges and research centres of CCRH.
• Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga has been conducting online Yoga Therapy classes during COVID-19 pandemic from May,2020,whehein about 126 online classes were conducted.30 Yoga instructors have also been deputed to impart Yoga to the COVID patients/ high risk groups/ quarantine centres under Directorate of AYUSH, Delhi from 15th July 2020, wherein around 14,673 COVID positive patients as well as high people have been benefitted.
