Question : MANUFACTURING OF WEAPONS LOCATING RADARS



(a) whether the Government is planning to manufacture weapon Locating Radars ANTPQ-37 with the help of DRDO on the lines of American weapon-locating radar as reported in Hindustan dated October 29, 2004;

(b) whether a new jammer has been developed by Bharat Electronics Ltd. to contain remote triggered explosions;

(c) if so, the time by which it is likely to be developed;

(d) the amount earmarked by the Government to be spent on the manufacturing of such radars and jammers;

(e) whether the Government is contemplating to make this technology available to other countries also; and

(f) if so, the details thereof?

MINISTER OF DEFENCE (SHRI PRANAB MUKHERJEE)

(a) Indigenous Weapon Locating Radar (WLR) similar to AN/TPQ-37 has been developed by DRDO in partnership with Bharat Electronics Ltd., Bangalore.

(b) & (c): Yes, Sir. The equipment will be ready for field trials by 31st December, 2004.

(d) The development cost of project on WLR is Rs. 26 cr. The unit cost of manufacturing of radar would depend upon quantum of order, the ground equipment and spares projected. Cost of Jammer for remotely triggered explosive devices is Rs. 1.4 cr.

(e) & (f): Government is not contemplating to make this technology available to other countries.
