(a) whether the Government propose to develop Mega Chemical Estates in the
country;
(b) if so, the details thereof, location-wise, in respective States;
(c) whether the Government of West Bengal was asked to recommend the site for
this purpose; and
(d) if so, the details thereof and the action taken by the Government in this
connection?

(a) to (d). The need for setting up Mega Chemical Industrial Estates (MCIE) having comprehensive infrastructure facilities for the chemical industry has been felt. State Governments of coastal states including West Bengal were
requested to identify suitable sites within their states, which could be
developed as MCIE. However, after considering all aspects of the issue
and the advise of the Planning Commission, it has been decided that the
proposal should be pursued with prospective private promoters.
