Question : Welfare of Families of Armed Forces

(a) whether a scheme has been prepared by the Government for the welfare of the families of armed forces personnels who succumb to their injuries while taking action against terrorists and defending border;

(b) the details thereof and the extent to which the families of the deceased armed forces personnel are likely to benefited from the scheme; and

(c) the time by which the said schemes is likely to be implemented?

(a) Yes, Madam.
(b) A new Fund namely, ‘Army Battle Casualties Welfare Fund’ has been set up under The Charitable Endowments Act, 1890 in the Ministry of Defence, D/o Ex-Servicemen Welfare to provide monetary assistance to the families of Army Battle Casualties. Financial assistance of Rs.2.00 lakh will be provided to the army battle casualties which are fatal, 60% and above disability and battle casualities invalided out due to disability and Rs.1.00 lakh to disability less than 60%. This will be in addition to liberalized Family Pension, financial assistance from Army Group Insurance, Army Welfare Fund and ex-gratia amount.
The management and administration of the Fund will be overseen by a Managing Committee headed by Hon’ble Raksha Mantri.
(c) The scheme has been notified on 17.07.2017 and made effective from 1.1.2016. Financial assistance of Rs.3.04 Crore has been released to 152 battle casualities out of the Fund.
