Question : UTILIZATION OF WATER OF CHAMBAL RIVER



(a) whether the Government have completed survey work of projects in regard to utilization of water of Chambal river;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) the number of schemes lying pending for controlling and channelising the flow of water of Chambal river in the bordering areas of Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan; and

(d) the concrete steps being considered by the Government in this regard?

(a) & (b) Survey and investigation for preparation of detailed projects reports of irrigation/multipurpose projects is the responsibility of the concerned State Government.

(c) The status of schemes in Chambal basin of Rajasthan is as follows:-

- 1 major and 1 medium scheme – under correspondence with the State Government.

- 2 medium schemes – Accepted by the Advisory Committee of Ministry of Water Resources subject to certain conditions.

- 4 major and 4 medium schemes sent back to the State Government due to non-compliance of the comments for more than one year.


(d) Clearance of projects is linked to the promptness with which State Government responds to the comments of the appraising agencies.
