Question : Four Laning of NHs

(a) whether all National Highways are planned to be converted into four lanes across the country and if so, the details thereof;

(b) the number of National Highways which are four laned, at present, State-wise;

(c) whether the Government proposes to connect Ranchi with each district of Jharkhand through four lane National Highways;

(d) if so, the details thereof, if not, the reasons therefor; and

(e) whether the Union Government has allocated funds for maintenance and repair of roads/NHs in Jharkhand, if so, the details thereof during the last three years?

(a) No Madam.

(b) The total length of National Highways (NHs) in the country is about 1,20,144 km. at present. Out of this, about 27,481 km. length of NHs are having four lanes / six lanes configuration.

(c)&(d) All National Highways passing through Ranchi are four laned / being four laned. Recently, Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has approved Bharatmala Pariyojana Phase-I in which it is envisaged to connect 550 districts in the Country through NH linkages.

(e) Yes Madam. Rs. 51 crore, Rs. 100.50 crore and Rs. 91.26 crore have been allocated against maintenance and repair of NHs in the State of Jharkhand for years 2014-15, 2015-16, 2016-17 respectively.
