Question : REPORT ON ATTACKS ON CHRISTIANS



(a) whether the Government is aware of a report released by the Catholic Secular Forum in which it has been indicated that more than 120 attacks took place on Christians and their institutions during 2014 in the country;

(b) if so, the details thereof along with the names of the States where attacks on Christians and their institutions was the highest during 2014;

(c) whether the Human Right`s Groups across the world have expressed concern over such attacks; and

(d) if so, the details thereof and the reaction of the Government in this regard?

(a) No such report has been received.

(b) to (d) “Public Order” and “Police” being State subjects as per the provisions of the Constitution of India, the responsibilities of maintaining law and order, registration and prosecution of crimes inclu- ding attacks on religious institutions rest primarily with the respective State Governments. State Govern- ments are competent to deal with religion related offences under the extant provisions of laws. Details regarding such offences are not maintained centrally.
