(a) whether the Health Department has undertaken intensive research
work in identifying herbs for medicinal use;
(b) if so, the details thereof alongwith small and big units
manufacturing medicines from these herbs, State-wise; and
(c) the condition of medicine manufacturing units in the public and
private sector?

(a) Three Research Councils set up by the Government have been
collecting medicinal plants including herbs for studying their
properties to further develop drugs for the Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha and
Homoeopathy systems which depend primarily on plants as raw materials.
The Research Councils are:
1. Central Council for Research in Ayurveda & Siddha (CCRAS).
2. Central Council for Research in Unani Medicine (CCRUM).
3. Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy (CCRH).
