Question : Development of Kollam Railway Station

(a) whether the Government proposes to develop railway stations on International standards and if so, the details thereof;

(b) the details of railway stations selected for development under the scheme;

(c) the details of facilities proposed to be provided in such railway stations;

(d) whether the Government proposes to develop Kollam Railway Station under the development scheme and if so, the details thereof;

(e) the details of the development included in Kollam Railway station under the project;

(f) the details of agency entrusted for such developments in Kollam Railway station;

(g) the project cost for the development of Kollam Railway Station; and

(h) the time by which the said project is likely to be completed ?

STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) TO (h) OF UNSTARRED QUESTION NO.605 BY SHRI N.K. PREMACHANDRAN TO BE ANSWERED IN LOK SABHA ON 01.12.2021 REGARDING DEVELOPMENT OF KOLLAM RAILWAY STATION
(a) to (c): Yes, Sir. Ministry of Railways through various agencies is undertaking techno-economic feasibility studies of Railway stations. Based on the outcome of these feasibility studies, stations are planned to be taken up for development in phases, especially the stations located in major cities, pilgrimage centres and important tourist destinations. Two stations viz., Gandhinagar Capital (Gujarat) and Rani Kamlapati Railway Station (Madhya Pradesh) have been developed and commissioned. Sir M. Visvesvaraya Terminal (Bengaluru) is ready for commissioning. Work is in progress at five stations viz. Ayodhya, Safdarjung, Bijwasan, Gomtinagar and Ajni.
The facilities proposed in a developed station include congestion free non-conflicting entry/exit to the station premises, segregation of arrival/departure of passengers, adequate concourse without overcrowding, integration of both sides of the city, wherever feasible, integration with other modes of transport systems e.g., Bus, Metro, etc., user friendly international signage, well illuminated circulating area and sufficient provision for drop off, pick up & parking etc.
(d) to (f): Kollam Railway Station has been entrusted to Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA) for techno-economic feasibility studies. Facilities like segregated Arrival & Departure, Air Concourse, new/renovated Terminal Building, upgraded passenger facilities etc. are planned to be provided at Kollam railway station.
(g)&(h): Station redevelopment program is first of its kind and complex in nature and requires detailed techno-financial feasibility studies and various statutory clearances from local bodies etc. Therefore, no time-frame or cost can be indicated at this stage.
