Question : SANITATION PROGRAMMES



(a) whether the Government has any proposal to encourage the corporate houses and NGOs to participate in the implementation of sanitation programmes at the Gram Panchayat levels; and

(a) and (b) The Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation has issued guidelines to facilitate the utilisation of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds in rural sanitation activities. States can use these guidelines as a base to develop their own procedure to attract/receive and utilise CSR funds. Many Corporates have announced taking up works in rural sanitation, which they carrying out in consultation with state, district and local governments. Details are available at the decentralised levels.

As per Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin) Guidelines, Non-Government Organisations have an important role in the implementation of SBM (G) in the rural areas. They are considered for actively involvement in the Information, Education and Communication (IEC) activities including in Triggering leading to demand generation and sustained use of the facilities, in Capacity building, assistance in construction and ensuring sustained use of sanitation facilities.
