Question : SUB-SOIL WATER



(a) whether a clinical study has discovered that the quality of sub-soil water is better than the water in the aquifers;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether in view of the above the Government proposes to encourage the use of sub-soil water; and

(d) if so, the action taken by the Government in this regard?

STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY OF PARTS (a) to (d) OF LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO. 153 FOR REPLY ON 26.11.2007 REGARDING SUB-SOIL WATER

(a)to(d) The studies carried out by the Central Ground Water Board(CGWB) in various parts of the country reveal that the quality of sub-soil and aquifer waters varies from place to place. In some areas sub-soil water is of better quality, whereas in some areas aquifer water is of better quality. The Government encourages the integrated use of water resources, based on the availability as well as quality of water.
