Question : MNC`S IN CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY



(a) the total number of multinational/transnational companies that are operating inconstruction industry in India at present;

(b) the details of the projects under the control of these MNCs/TNCs and the terms and conditions they are allowed to operate;

(c) the names of the major countries from which plants and machineries for the construction projects have been imported during the last three years; and

(d) the total value of the import during the said period and the forex paid therefor ?

(a) As per the extant policy, FDI upto 100% is permitted in construction industry. A total number of 102 proposals for foreign direct investment (FDI) amounting to Rs. 1,337.68 crore have been granted approval for construction activities in the last three financial years.

(b) Details of the approvals are published in the monthly SIA Newsletter brought outby Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion and is widely circulated to various establishments, including the Parliament Library. The information is also posted on the SIA Website (http://www.dipp.nic.in). all approvals for FDI are subject to Indian Laws. The import of plant and machinery are governed by the EXIM policy in force.

(c) and (d) As per the figures reported by DGFT, the import of machinery for public works, building etc. was of a value of around Rs.110.70 crore during the corresponding period. However, the value of imports, as reported,are not limited to trhe FDI approvals. The major imports are form countries like Australia, Denmark, France, Germany, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Netherland, Singapore, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Elmiretes, Sweden, United Kingdom and United States of America.
