Question : SURVEILLANCE SYSTEM FOR AIRPORTS



(a) whether adequate security and surveillance has been provided at major domestic and international airports of the country and if so, the details thereof;

(b) whether the Airports Authority of India has decided to install full body scanners at some sensitive airports of the country including Kochi, Kozhikode and Trivandrum airports and if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether some passengers including women passengers have protested against these full-body scanners and if so, the details thereof along with the alternative arrangements made or proposed to be made for women passengers;

(d) whether the Government has given any financial assistance for installation of security gadgets including full-body scanner and CCTV cameras at various airports in the country during each of the last three years and the current year and if so, the details thereof, airport-wise; and

(e) whether any instance of irregularities committed by customs staff at Indira Gandhi International Airport has come to the notice of the Government/ Directorate General of Civil Aviation during the said period and if so, the details thereof along with the action taken against them?

(a): Yes, Madam. Adequate security and surveillance are provided at major domestic and international airports as per mandates of Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS). The details are as under:-

(i) CCTV cameras

(ii) Equipment such as X-ray machines, Door Frame Metal Detectors (DFMDs), Hand Held Metal Detectors (HHMDs), Explosive Trace Devices (ETDs), Hydraulic Bollards, Boom Barriers and Tyre Killers.;

(iii) Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) and Dog Squads have been provided at major airports

(iv) CISF has been deployed at 52 AAI airports and State Police has been deployed at 27 AAI airports for providing security and surveillance; and

(v) In addition, Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs) have also been deployed at all AAI airports.
