Question : POLLUTION BY BOKARO THERMAL POWER STATION



(a) whether the Government has taken any steps to check pollution being caused by smoke and ash emitted out from chimney of Bokaro Thermal Power Station in Jharkhand;

(b) if so, the details thereof; and

(c) the action taken by the Government for treatment of diseases caused to local residents by said pollution?

(a) Yes, Sir

(b) & (c) Bokaro Thermal Power Station ( BTPS ) , Jharkhnd has two units, namely, BTPS `A` and BTPS `B` . As per the directions of Central Pollution Control Board, the Bokaro `A` thermal power station has been closed down since 2002 due to non compliance of environmental standards. The Jharkhand state pollution Control Board has issued show cause notices and given directions to BTPS `B` to bring emission from stack and effluent quality with in prescribed norms and for abating environmental impacts.
