MINISTER OF STATE OF THE MINISTRY OF INFORMATION AND BROADCASTING
AND MINISTER OF STATE OF THE DEPARTMENT OF DISINVESTMENT
( SHRI ARUN JAITLEY )
(a): Government does not maintain information of state-wise numbers of cable
operators and users in the country. However, according to the National Readership
survey (NRS), 1999, it is estimated that there are 29.4 million cable and satellite
homes in the country.
(b): Government does not maintain information about tariff charged by the cable
operators from customers. Cable networks mainly re-transmit programmes carried
by satellite channels, which include programmes on such subjects as news, films,
nature and wild-life, science, health, fantasy, mythology, music, soap operas,
sports etc. Some networks generate their own programmes also on some of the
above subject.
