(a) & (b) Eco-Sensitive Zones (ESZ) are declared around Protected Areas(PAs) through Notification under the provisions of section 3 (2)(v) of the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986 and Rules made thereunder.In 2011, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC) prepared Guidelines for development of ESZ around National Parks and Wildlife Sanctuaries specifying activities that are to be prohibited,regulated and promoted in the ESZ.Out of total 662 PAs, MoEF&CChas so far,published final ESZ Notifications covering 382PAs and draft Notifications for 156 PAs. State-wise detail of Notified ESZ is Annexed.

(c) The objective of notifying ESZ around Protected Areasinter aliainclude minimising anthropogenic impacts, such as man animal conflict, conservation of biodiversityand to ensure sustainable development taking into consideration the needs and aspiration of the local people.
