Question : Use of Chemical Fertilizers

Will the Minister of CHEMICALS AND FERTILIZERS be pleased to state:

(a) whether the use of chemical fertilizers is gradually increasing in the country;

(b) if so, the details thereof and the annual growth of use of chemical fertilizers;

(c) whether the production cost of the said fertilizer is also increasing; and

(d) if so, the extent of increase in the production cost during the last one decade?

(a) & (b): The use of major chemical fertilizers over the years is given below:

(c) & (d): Production cost of urea varies depending upon the price of gas & other feedstock, exchange rate variation etc. Production cost of urea during the last one decade is at Annexure-1
Production Cost of P&K fertilizers is not calculated after implementation of the Nutrient Based Subsidy (NBS) Scheme w.e.f. 1.4.2010. However, cost of production of different P&K fertilizers under the Concession Scheme during the year 2008-09 and 2009-10 has been enclosed as per Annexure – 2
