Question : TECHNOLOGY FOR GENERATION OF POWER FROM GARBAGE



(a) whether any technology has been imported and adopted for generating power from garbage in metropolitan cities;

(b) if so, the details thereof along with the quantum of power generated from garbage during each of the last three financial years, metropolitan city- wise; and

(c) the quantum of total power generated from garbage in the country during the last three years?

(a): Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has not imported and adopted any technology for generation of power from garbage. However, some of the project developers have technology tie up with foreign countries. The project developers have also imported some of the equipments used for garbage to power generation projects.

(b)&(c): So far, only one plant of 16 MW capacity based on urban waste to energy has been commissioned at Okhla, New Delhi by M/S TimarpurOkhla Waste Management Pvt. Ltd. (TOWMPL), New Delhi. M/S TOWMPL has reported a generation of about 356 million units of electricity from the plant during last three years.
