(a) the details and amount of gold smuggled from various countries to India, quantity and country-wise;
(b) the manner in which the gold seized by the Government is being utilised; and
(c) the steps being taken by the Government to check gold smuggling?

(a) Details of quantity and country-wise gold seizures are given in the Annexure.
(b) In cases of smuggling, the seized gold is absolutely confiscated and disposed through sale/auction.
(c) In order to curb smuggling of gold, Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) of CBEC has been issuing Alert/modus operandi Circulars from time to time. Strict vigil is kept in sensitive areas at airports/borders; flights from sensitive sectors are scrutinized and the baggage x-rayed and passengers diverted for security through metal detectors. On detection of cases, strict action is taken by way of imposing deterrent fine and penalty as per relevant provisions of law.
