Question : DISTRIBUTION OF FREE MEDICINES TO PATIENTS



(a) whether medicines are distributed in Government Hospitals free of cost;

(b) if so, the details of the medicines procured for this purpose during the last three years;

(c) whether such medicines are being sold in open market unauthorisedly;

(d) the steps taken by the Government to check such malpractice;

(e) the number of officials found committing such malpractice during the last three years; and

(f) the action taken against them?

(a)&(b): In so far as three Central Government Hospitals in Delhi, namely, Dr. R.M.L. Hospital, Safdarjung Hospital and Lady Hardinge Medical College & its associated hospitals, are concerned, medicines according to formulary & available in stock are distributed free of cost to patients as per the existing policy. The statement of allocation for purchase of supply and materials (including medicines) during the last three years is annexed.

(c)to(f); No such incidence has come to the notice of this Ministry.
