Question : MAPPING OF COASTLINE



(a) whether the Government has any plan to map the country`s vast coastline, identify areas vulnerable to high tides, rising sea levels and coastal erosion in an unusually comprehensive hazard mapping exercise;

(b) if so, the details thereof, along with the associated timelines;

(c) the aims and objectives of such mapping along with the funds allocated and utilised for the purpose;

(d) the view of the concerned States in this regard; and

(e) whether the Government has sought/ received any assistance from International Development Banks viz. World Bank, Asia Development Bank etc. and if so, the details thereof?

(a) to (e) : The Ministry of Environment Forests & Climate Change has initiated the World Bank assisted Integrated Coastal Zone Management Project [ICZM]. Under this project, the Mininstry has assigned the work of mapping, delineation and demarcation of the hazard lines to Survey of India with a cost of Rs. 125 Cr, of which Rs. 55.61 utilized as on 31st March 2015. As per the Survey of India, the completion date of the hazard line is 31/12/2017.
