Question : DEFENCE LAND



(a) the details of the defence land in the country including Uttar Pradesh, State / UT-wise;

(b) whether information regarding defence land from various State Governments has been received;

(c) if so, the details thereof, State / UT-wise;

(d) whether the Government has formulated any plan to utilise the unused defence land; and

(e) if so, the details thereof along with the time by which the plan is likely to be implemented?

MINISTER OF DEFENCE (SHRI MANOHAR PARRIKAR)

(a) State-wise details of defence land in the country including State of Uttar Pradesh and Union Territories is annexed.

(b) & (c): All Defence land records are maintained by the Defence Estates Department in the Ministry of Defence. The information regarding defence land within Cantonments is available in the General Land Register (GLR) and regarding defence land outside Cantonments, in Military Land Register (MLR) maintained by the Defence Estates Officers and Cantonment Boards concerned.

(d) Defence land is acquired only after the use of land is specified and accepted by the Government. Hence, there is no surplus defence land. Defence land which is presently lying vacant or unused is either earmarked for a specific purpose or is meant to be used for defence purpose in future as per strategic, operational and Key Location Plan (KLP) needs and in keeping with requirements of the dynamic security environment of the country.
