Question : Critical Infrastructure Projects

(a) whether the Union Government has reviewed 59 issues in critical infrastructure projects;

(b) if so, the details of the projects reviewed and the anticipated investment value of these projects;

(c) whether the Union Government has issued directions and timelines to ensure expeditious resolution of pending issues for timely commissioning of projects;

(d) if so, the details thereof;

(e) whether regular multi-level monitoring of infrastructure projects is critical to the economic growth and employment generation in the country; and

(f) if so, the steps taken by the Union Government in this direction?

(a): Yes, Sir.

(b): The Government, on 29.06.2021, has reviewed 59 pending issues of select 20 infrastructure projects, having cumulative investment of approximate Rs. 2.74 lakh crores. These issues were pending with various Departments of State Governments of Bihar, Haryana, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu. Details of the projects is given in Annexure-A.

(c)&(d): Yes, Sir. Specific directions/ timelines were given in the meeting for expeditious resolution of the issues, for fast-tracking the implementation of these projects.

(e)&(f): Yes, Sir. Regular monitoring of infrastructure projects is critical to remove bottlenecks in setting up major infrastructure projects and accelerating the pace of project executions. The Ministry of Commerce and Industry, through Project Monitoring Group (PMG), facilitates resolution of issues faced by large scale critical infrastructure projects by reviewing their progress in the regular meetings with the Central Ministries/Departments and State Governments at the level of Minister of Commerce and Industry, Secretary, Additional/ Joint Secretary and Chief Secretaries of States.
