Question : PETITIONS RECEIVED BY NHRC



(a) the number of petitions received by the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) during each of the last three years and the current year, State-wise;

(b) whether the NHRC has closed any of these petitions;

(c) if so, the details thereof; and

(d) the steps taken by the NHRC for the speedy disposal of the petitions received by it from time to time?

(a) to (c): A statement indicating the number of cases registered by the National Human Rights Commission during the last three years and current year upto 25/11/2014 State-wise, alongwith status thereof, on the basis of complaints (petitions) about alleged human rights violations/intimations received, is enclosed at Annexure-A.

(d): During various workshops, seminars and camp sittings, the Commission makes efforts to sensitize senior officers in State Governments for expediting the response called for by the Commission. The Commission also uses measures such as issue of conditional summons, summons and bailable warrants for expediting the receipt of reports for expeditious disposal of complaints.
