Question : Functioning of Tribunals

(a) the number of tribunals functioning in the country as on date;
(b) the total number of cases pending in various tribunals as on date, tribunal-wise;
(c) the present status of progress made with regard to the merger of various tribunals in the country;
(d) whether the Government has consulted various Ministries under which the said tribunals are functioning and their responses in this regard;
(e) if so, the details thereof and the steps taken/proposed to be taken by the Government in this regard; and
(f) whether these tribunals have been successful in achieving their objectives and if not, the steps taken/being taken by the Government to review/improve their functioning?

(a), (b) and (f) Information is being collected and will be laid on the Table of the House.
(c) to (e) After consultation with the concerned Ministries/Departments, vide Part XIV of Chapter VI of the Finance Act, 2017, (which provide for Merger of Tribunals and other Authorities and Conditions of Service of Chairperson, Members, etc. and came into force w.e.f. 26.05.2017) certain Acts were amended and 15 Tribunals have been merged to reduce them to 7 by amending the respective laws.
