Question : AYUSH Colleges and Hospitals

Will the Minister of AYURVEDA, YOGA AND NATUROPATHY, UNANI, SIDDHA AND HOMOEOPATHY (AYUSH) be pleased to state:

(a) the number of Ayurvedic/Unani universities/colleges/hospitals operating across the country, State/UT, location-wise particularly North Eastern States including Assam;

(b) the estimated number of candidates completing their courses during the last three years;

(c) whether there is any proposal to set up any new Ayurvedic/Unani universities/colleges in the country, State/ UT-wise particularly in Assam, if so, the details thereof;

(d) the steps taken by the Government to propogate indigenous healthcare systems along with the budget allocated for the same during the last two years; and

(e) whether the Government is contemplating to start new ‘Yoga University’ in four zones of the country and if so, the details thereof?

ANSWER

(a): There are 457 Ayurvedic and Unani colleges and Hospitals in total operating across the country. These colleges affiliated with 64 universities (including deemed universities). The State/UT, location-wise details of Ayurvedic and Unani universities, colleges with hospitals operating across the country (including all North Eastern States) are placed at Annexure.
(b): Around 40,000 candidates have completed their graduation in Ayurveda and Unani stream during last three years;

(c): Presently there is no such proposal under consideration of the Government including for the state of Assam.
(d): Under Centrally Sponsored Scheme of National AYUSH Mission (NAM) financial assistance is being provided to the States/UTs for promotion of AYUSH system as per the State Annual Action Plan (SAAP) received from the States/UTs.
The National AYUSH Mission (NAM) inter-alia makes provision for the following: -
(i) Co-location of AYUSH facilities at Primary Health Centers (PHCs), Community Health Centers (CHCs) and District Hospitals (DHs).
(ii) Up gradation of exclusive State Government AYUSH Hospitals and Dispensaries.
(iii) Setting up of up to 50 bedded integrated AYUSH Hospital.
(iv) Upgradation of State Government Educational Institutions.
(v) Setting up of new State Government AYUSH Educational Institutions in the State where it is not available.
(vi) Strengthening of State Government/ Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani and Homoeopathy (ASU&H) Pharmacies and Drug Testing Laboratories (DTL).
(vii) Cultivation and Promotion of Medicinal Plants.
Further, an amount of Rs. 489.07 crore and Rs. 456.49 crore have been allocated / released to States / UTs during 2017-18 and 2018-19 respectively as per their submitted State Annual Action Plans (SAAPs).
(e): Presently there is no such proposal under consideration of the Government in any of the four zones.
