Question : EMERGENCY LANDINGS



(a) the details of the incidents of emergency/ rough landing of aircraft of public and private airlines reported during 2010 and 2011 so far, airline-wise and incident-wise;

(b) the reasons for such emergency/ rough landings;

(c) whether any inquiry has been conducted into all these incidents;

(d) if so, the outcome thereof, incidentwise; and

(e) the corrective steps taken/being taken in this regard?

(a) to (e):- A statement is laid on the Table of the House.

Statement referred to in the parts (a) to (e) of the Lok Sabha Starred () Question No. 482 for 07/09/2011 regarding “Emergency Landings”.

(a) to (e):- There were 26 cases of emergency landing reported in 2010 and 25 cases in 2011. All incidents including emergency landing etc. other than serious incidents and accidents notifiable under Aircraft Rules 1937 are investigated by the Permanent Investigation Board (PIB) of the operator as set up by Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and is also represented by DGCA officers. Safety recommendations emanating from the investigation of aircraft by PIB are followed up for implementation with the concerned agencies so as to prevent recurrence of similar incidents. A table showing the airlines – wise and incident – wise details inter alia indicating reasons, recommendations of PIB and corrective action taken is annexed.
