(a) whether activities of International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB), New Delhi are financed by the Government of India through Department of Biotechnology;

(b) if so, number of research articles communicated and number of research articles accepted for publication in National and International journals for the last three years, year-wise and category-wise, by the staff of ICGEB, New Delhi; and

(c) the number of patents communicated and the number of patents accepted during the last three years, year-wise and category-wise by the staff of ICGEB, New Delhi?

(a) : International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB), an Autonomous Centre under the UN System, has been given all the privileges and immunities like other UN organizations in India by the Government of India through a Gazette Notification from the Ministry of External Affairs. There is also a Headquarters Agreement between the Government of India and the ICGEB under which different provisions have been made concerning the seat of the Centre at New Delhi. The Department of Biotechnology is a nodal agency responsible for making host-country contribution to the Centre and other links with the government.

(b) : The number of research articles published and communicated in peer reviewed international journals during the last three years are as under:

(c) : The Centre is basically doing high quality fundamental research, yet some products and patents have emerged. The number of patents communicated and number of patents accepted during the last three years are as under :
