QUEEN OJA, HON’BLE MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT REGARDING
VOCATIONAL EDUCATION
(a) to (b): Under Ministry of Human Resource Development’s purview, various skill oriented
courses are implemented by University Grants Commission (UGC) and All India Council for
Technical Education (AICTE) through Community Colleges, Bachelor of Vocation courses
(BVoC) & Deen Dayal Upadhyaya (DDU) Kausal Kendras to boost the employability of
youth. All the universities and colleges in the country have the option of adopting these
approved skill education courses. Currently, total 81 institutions (42 institutions offering
B.VoC. degree programmes, 34 Community Colleges and 5 DDU Kaushal Kendras) are
running vocational courses in the North-Eastern States including Assam. Rupees 158.43 crore
has been allocated to these institutions situated in the North-Eastern States for vocational
education during the last 5 years. The list of the B.Voc. colleges, Community Colleges and
DDU Kaushal Kendras in the North-Eastern States with the details of allocation of funds to
them during last 5 years is at Annexure.
(c) to (d): In addition to above, the following initiatives for vocational education have been
taken by the Government:

(i) Scheme for Higher Education Youth for Apprenticeship and Skills (SHREYAS).
(ii) Development of new and updated curricula for B.Voc. courses.
(iii) Launch of a portal for facilitating Internships by AICTE.
(iv) Internship made mandatory by AICTE.
