Question : SURVEY ON MISSING MONUMENTS



(a) whether the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI)/ National Monuments Authority (NMA) have conducted any survey regarding missing monuments in the country;

(b) if so, the details thereof, State and agency-wise;

(c) whether any reconciliation of a number of monuments reportedly missing by both the agencies have been carried over;

(d) if so, the details thereof and the reasons therefor, agency-wise; and

(e) the corrective steps taken/being taken by the Government to locate/trace and recover the missing monuments in the country?

(a) to(e) A statement is laid on the table of the House.

STATEMENT REFERRRED TO IN REPLY TO PART (a) TO (e) OF THE LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO.115 FOR 1.12.2014 REGARDING SURVEY ON MISSING MONUMENTS

(a)&(b) National Monuments Authority has not submitted any specific report to the Government on disappeared/ untraceable historical monuments under ASI in the country. The Archaeological Survey of India has a list of 24 monuments which remain untraceable/disappeared. The details are at Annexure.

(c)&(d) As the National Monuments Authority has not submitted any specific report to the Government on disappeared/untraceable historical monuments under ASI in the country therefore the question of reconci- liation with the number of missing monuments by NMA & ASI and details thereof, agency-wise do not arise.

(e) The Archaeological Survey of India has made efforts to locate/identify the untraceable monuments through field offices based on inspection, old records, revenue maps and published reports.
