Question : Medical Education

Will the Minister of HEALTH AND FAMILY WELFARE be pleased to state:

(a) the funds allocated for medical education for the current financial year;

(b) whether the Government proposes certain reforms including imparting of medical education in Hindi medium, if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons
therefor;

(c) whether the Government has any proposal to increase the earmarked percentage of 30 per cent for merit cum means based scholarship for eligible girl medical students and if so, the details thereof and the reasons therefor;

(d) whether the Government has permitted certain medical colleges including Idukki medical college to continue to function by relaxing the requisite rules and provisions in this regard, if so, the details thereof and the reasons therefor; and

(e) whether the Government has received any proposal from the States/UTs including Kerala to start M.D. Radiotherapy in Government medical colleges, and if so, the details thereof and the action taken/proposed to be taken by the Government thereon?

Answer given by the minister

(a): Under the Medical Education, Training and Research an amount of Rs.7032.56 crore has been earmarked for the year 2015-16.
(b): No.
(c): No.
(d): The Central Government has granted permission for renewal of MBBS courses for the academic year 2015-16 in respect of seven Government Medical College after obtaining Undertaking from the concerned State Government. A list of seven Government Medical College is annexed at Annexure-A
(e): List of valid applications received by the Government from States/UTS including Kerala to start M.D. Radiotherapy in Government medical colleges and action thereof by this Ministry is annexed at Annexure-B.
