Question : Diamond Quadrilateral

(a) whether it is true that the Government has proposed to introduce “Diamond Quadrilateral” scheme in the Indian Railways;

(b) if so, the details of the objectives of the said scheme; and

(c) the time by which the said scheme is likely to be introduced?

(a) to (c): There is no such scheme. However, the following corridors have been identified for feasibility studies for high speed rail connectivity to the four major metros and growth centers of the country: (i) Delhi-Mumbai, (ii) Mumbai-Chennai, (iii) Chennai-Kolkata, (iv) Kolkata-Delhi and both diagonals i.e. (v) Delhi-Chennai and (vi) Mumbai-Kolkata routes.

No time frame has been fixed for the studies on high speed trains.
