Question : FISHING HARBOUR AT POOMPUHAR NAGAPATTINAM



(a) whether there was a proposal under consideration of the Central Fisheries Research Institute (Bangalor

(e) to establish a Fishing Harbour at Poompuhar in Nagapattinam district;

(b) if so, the present status of the proposal; and

(c) the steps being taken to expedite the approval and implementation of the proposal?

(a): Yes, Sir. A proposal is being processed by the Central Institute of Coastal Engineering for Fishery, Bangalore.

(b) & (c): Based on the directions issued by the Ministry of Agriculture, the Central Institute of Coastal Engineering for Fishery, Bangalore carried out engineering and economic investigations at the proposed site for development of a minor fishing harbour at Poompuhar. After enalysing the field data and other engineering aspects the institute prepared an interim report and submitted to the Government of Tamil Nadu for preparation of detailed cost estimate based on current schedule of rates of the State Government. The detailed cost estimate is awaited from the State Government, on receipt of which, further steps would be initiated by the Central Institute at Bangalore.
